The amount of technical gadgets and highly specialised gear can be intimidating. It’s hard to know what's worth the hype and which product is the best choice for the adventure at hand. Christmas is the perfect excuse to get something special for that person who always has the next adventure booked. Or someone who’s been thinking of going on a trip but they need that extra nudge from Santa. In times when we are trying to be less wasteful and more conscious about our gifts, it’s more important than ever to make mindful and long-lasting choices - Wild Earth is all about that!
One thing you wanna make sure of when buying a Christmas gift for your favourite traveller is to get something functional and above all something durable. Not sure where to start? Feeling a little intimidated by the choices out there? Don’t worry, I’m here to help and steer you in the right direction!
Starting strong, right off the bat. What’s the best luggage to take for all the travels? Is it a gift for a backpacker? Or someone who prefers the more luxurious side of things? How about something in the middle? A mighty duffel.
There is the constant dilemma of which one is better - the hard suitcase or backpack? I tried to find something that kinda ticks all the boxes. This might seem like a pricey gift to start with, but I guarantee you - it’s the kind of present that will last years, so you’re off the hook for a while ;)
Why is it perfect for travellers? The wheeled duffel is soft enough - it can be packed however you desire. It is a very durable material and you’ll never be scared your suitcase will crack. It is lightweight but also has wheels and loads of different handles to grab by. It opens from the top so it can be packed to anyone's liking. It comes in different sizes and colours, but my preferred is blue because it’s easy to spot on an airport carousel.
The safety lock is such a brilliant and convenient accessory. It’s small and compact and really easy to use. It has a variety of uses - your luggage, safety boxes in a hostel or just extra protection for your zippers and because it’s a combination lock, there’s no fear of losing the key!
This lock gives travellers peace of mind while taking up minimal space or weight.
If you feel like a lock is not enough to protect your prize belongings - I’d recommend combining the lock with an accessory cable. It can be used to wrap around your backpack as well as a way of attaching loose items to your luggage. The Matador BetaLock is a great option.
Packing cubes are lightweight, rectangular pouches that help you organise your luggage when travelling. They come in all sorts of colours and sizes and they serve multiple different purposes. The possibilities are endless - from cubes to pack your shirts - to other ones for electronics and even shoes!
Travel can be so chaotic, especially moving from location to location. Packing cubes solve that problem, because they help to organise all your clothes and loose items in your bag. I love the Cotopaxi cubes because they are colourful and made from recycled materials.
It is worth exploring other brands for suitable packing cubes such as: Eagle Creek, Matador, Osprey.
No traveller will say no to more packing cubes! :)
The reusable, refillable 24 oz Standard Mouth insulated water bottle keeps cold drinks cold for 24 hours, hot drinks hot for up to 12 hours, and holds enough hydration for hours of fun.
Why is it a perfect present?
There are so many benefits to stainless steel water bottles, but my favourite is that they keep the temperature of my water and keep it chill. Stainless steel bottles don’t smell after prolonged use. There are so many water stations on airports and in hotels, it really is convenient to have your bottle on you.
Hot tip: it’s worth buying the strawless water bottle for air travel, as it prevents the leaks caused by the change in pressure on the plane!
On the budget? Let’s explore small cute presents for travellers!
Instead of buying silly little trinkets, it’s always great to buy useful items, even if they are small. I’ve compiled a short list - perfect for a Secret Santa, or just Santa on a budget ;)
Perfect for blocking out the outside sound! And super cute and functional packaging.
Small carabiners are always so convenient when travelling and come in handy in many situations.
Perfect for staying hydrated during those long travel days! Small sachets are so easy to travel with and to be used whenever needed.
