It’s time to bust out your warmer gear and maybe even time to update that winter jacket that's been around the block a few times. We’ve spoken to our in-store experts to find you some of the best, new winter jackets of 2023, and some fan favourites to round out the list.
To kick off this list we could not look past the all-new Arcteryx Thorium Insulated Hoody. A stylish, yet versatile, jacket that is packed with 750 fill-power, responsibly sourced goose-down and will keep you warm in the coldest of temperatures. The Thorium pairs technical outdoor performance with everyday functionality. Super lightweight, weighing in at only 517g, it features a breathable and water-resistant outer shell, and it is super packable to throw in your pack as a “just in case” option.
Next, we have a slight spin on a fan favourite with the Patagonia Reversible Silent Down Fleece. The versatility of 2 jackets in one with a super-soft Silent Down fabric on one side and high-pile fleece on the other makes it the perfect option for any occasion. The raglan-style sleeve allows for extra mobility while out on the trails and microfleece-lined pockets keep your hands warm while you're at it. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the duck and goose down is 100% recycled from reclaimed down products.
Everyone loves the rugged look of a flannel and now XTM has taken that to a whole new level with the Woodsman Plaid Check Sherpa. With a rugged looking, 100% microfibre polyester outer and a warm 100% polyester sherpa fleece lining, the Woodsman will help you unleash that inner lumberjack while keeping you warm at the same time. Equipped with a full-length front zip, chest pockets and side pockets, this jacket is a versatile and practical piece of outdoor equipment.
Introducing the new and improved The North Face Aconcagua 2! An updated version of the original Aconcagua, the Aconcagua 2 boasts all the same features as the popular down puffer jacket, with an all-new stylish look to it. Steering in a new direction, The North Face has reinvented the traditional puffer jacket with some full-sized panels on the shoulders and pocket areas. With 550 fill sustainably sourced down, the Aconcagua 2 will keep you super warm in the coldest of temperatures. Not to mention the 100% recycled polyester with a non-PFC DWR (durable water repellent) finish will keep you dry when the rain starts to rear its head. Stylish and functional, what more do you need?
It wouldn’t be a best-of list without The North Face’s 1996 Retro Nuptse! This jacket continues to outperform the competition and has been a fan favourite since entering the market back in 1996. Continuing with the 90s style, the Nuptse has a boxy-shaped silhouette that seems to never go out of fashion. However, this is more than just a stylish jacket. The Nupste boasts a 700 fill responsibly sourced down that will perform anywhere in the world and paired with 100% recycled nylon ripstop with a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish that keeps this jacket safe and you nice and dry.
